The dentures of America’s first president, George Washington, were made of hippo teeth – not of wood, as is generally believed
Hippo teeth does not discolour with age, as elephant teeth do
Birds such as storks, herons, ibises, spoonbills and ducks often follow hippopotamuses and crocodile in the hope of finding food as they wade through water
Dr Eddie Young noticed in the Pretoria Zoo that a hippopotamus bull calls out in a certain way when making advances to a cow. He claims that by drawing your breath in a loud, gurgling way, and with a little exercise, you will also be able to sing the love song of the hippopotamus! He tried it and after a while knew exactly how the bull would react when he sang the song. This happened times without number, to great amusement (or even embarrassment) of the spectators.
